Jerry Smurl is a dedicated public servant who has devoted his life to the betterment of the community he serves. A lifelong resident of Scranton, Jerry is a husband, parent, homeowner, and small business owner who has served on Scranton City Council since 2022.
A contractor by trade and the longtime proprietor of Smurl HVAC, Jerry is perhaps best well-known for his annual “Christmas Lights House,” a Prospect Avenue holiday tradition and elaborate display that he and his wife, Carol, have offered free to the community for almost 40 years.
While serving on City Council, Jerry has focused on public safety, enhanced quality of life, and responsible fiscal management to make our city a better place to live, work, raise a family, and retire.
Now, Jerry is running for re-election to build on that progress and address the issues that matter most to you.
“I want voters to know that I am committed to leading the city’s future with independence, integrity and a shared intent to continue moving Scranton forward by supporting economic development, restoring parks and pools, and promoting cleaner, safer neighborhoods,” he said.
Jerry also serves as the Chairman of the Committee on Rules and formerly served as Vice President of the Scranton Municipal Recreation Authority and President of the Housing Appeals Board. He continues to volunteer significant time and labor, cleaning up and maintaining city parks, recreation areas and neighborhoods.
